The new iCelsius BBQ cooking probe is specifically designed to convert an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch into a digital thermometer.
The right angled, stainless steel food penetration probe has a diameter of 7mm with a pencil point sensing tip of 10cm length.
The temperature range is 0°C to 250°C (23°F to 482°F) with an accuracy of +/- 1°C at 60°C (+/- 1.8°F at 140°F).
Available as a FREE download from the APP Store, the application works with the probe to simply and quickly display the most recent reading from the iCelsius BBQ probe both as a digital reading and analogue reading. The user can set the iCelsius to show the temperature to read in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F), create graphs, set-up alerts, store and email graphs. The Red cursor shows the alarm upper limit (a blue cursor shows the alarm lower limit). When using an iPhone, the alarm can be set-up to call another phone when triggered.

Labfacility exhibited at the 'Advances in Process Engineering & Maintenence' show at Sellafield on Wednesday 30th March 2011. The team showed off the new Tempmaster PRO and Labcal PRO instruments, together with the new L200 Temperature Logger and the full range of Labfacility Sensors.
Tempmaster PRO Laboratory Standard, Precision Digital Thermometer/Logger for Pt100 Sensors
The new Tempmaster PRO from Labfacility provides very high precision temperature measurement with Pt100 sensors. Data can be displayed in °C,°F, K or Ω as required; nine front panel push keys, the only user controls, are used in conjunction with the large, clear display screen.
Resolution is 0.01°C and all computations are performed digitally without drift. Overall stability is optimised by utilising only the highest quality components including high precision, expensive metal film resistor networks.
There are two input ports for 3 or 4 wire Pt100 sensors; the instrument automatically recognises 3 or 4 wire configurations. Both inputs can be scanned and values logged according to parameters set up by the user in the PC software. A real-time clock and on-board memory are incorporated.
The measured temperature can be displayed directly from one of the inputs or differentially between the two inputs. Differential temperature and the two individual channel temperatures are displayed simultaneously.
Individual calibrated sensors can have up to 10 appropriate calibration values programmed into the Tempmaster PRO. The instrument then digitally self-calibrates to the associated probe over the range embraced in the calibrated values used; the temperature readout is corrected accordingly.
- A SMART PROBE facility accepts a calibrated Pt100 sensor which carries its own calibration values within the probe
- A flash drive USB port is provided to allow data to be stored and/or exported. Firmware updates are also facilitated via this port
- The PC software which is supplied with the Tempmaster PRO allows remote control, measure and logging
- Serial interface with the PC is via a USB connection

Technical Article - Rtds Versus Ntc Thermistor
The demand for improved temperature sensor accuracy is increasing with the development of improved measurement and control systems and with the demands of industry. For certain applications in the range -50°C to +250°C including environmental monitoring, HVAC, Food processing and Distribution, Aerospace and Automotive, the system designer has two preferred alternatives (although others are available); these are RTDs (Resistance Thermometer Detector) and NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistors. This technical note refers to sensing elements only, not to sheathed assemblies.
RTDs, usually Pt100 or Pt1000 sensing resistors offer ultimate accuracy over a wide temperature range; they are generally rather more expensive than NTC thermistors and have a lower sensitivity. However RTDs do have almost universal interchangeability, world-wide. NTC thermistors are high sensitivity devices with a restricted temperature range and are less expensive than RTDs. They are more rugged and are therefore preferable in applications subject to high vibration.
Dimensions - both available in similar very small size
RTD -250°C to +850°C depending on construction.
NTC thermistor -50 °C to +250°C
Thermistor generally cheaper but RTDs becoming competitive
RTDs 0.385 Ohms per °C for Pt100, 3.85 Ohms per °C for Pt1000.
NTC thermistor around -5% per °C but international standards do not apply. Typically equates to many tens of Ohms.
RTD excellent, short and long term.
NTC Thermistor good short term; long term application dependent.
Both types can offer a low thermal mass but generally the NTC thermistor will be more responsive
RTD ±0.1 to 0.5°C for class B but much better for Class A or 1/10 DIN tolerance.
NTC thermistor ±0.1 to 0.3°C over limited range.
RTD ideally uses 3 or 4 wire interconnection. Pt1000 can be used as a two wire device for short lead lengths.
NTC thermistor is a high resistance device and 2 wire is used.
So which is better?
T his depends on the type of application and on the operating temperature. Both require a suitably configured instrument input. The NTC thermistor provides high accuracy and high resolution over a more limited temperature range and is generally cheaper; the transfer characteristic is very non-linear. The RTD is universally interchangeable with a near linear transfer characteristic and provides high accuracy over a wide temperature range but may cost more.

The Labfacility L200-TC, thermocouple thermometer can be used in conjunction with a PC to provide accurate, versatile 8 channel temperature measurement, scanning and logging of measured values. It can also be used as a “stand alone” 8-channel indicator/logger and incorporates a digital display of measured temperature.
The in-built, self-calibration facility is a rapid and convenient method for on-site calibration and does not require any additional equipment other than a special, external link.
The L200 is designed to provide exceptional stability with high measurement resolution and represents an ideal crossover between plant practicality and laboratory performance at a very competitive price.
The PC software supplied with the instrument allows control, measure, logging and calibration functions. The eight input channels accept thermocouples type J,K,T,E,N,R,S & B: highly stable, automatic cold junction compensation is incorporated.
Display resolution is 0.1°C on the front panel readout and 0.01°C in the PC software control panel. The integral, backlit LCD display can indicate selected channels or automatically scroll through all inputs. The measured temperature can be displayed in degrees C or F. RS485 communications are provided via a USB port.
The L200 is CE marked, RoHS compliant and has a two year warranty.

The Labfacility pipe surface thermocouple range allows accurate, responsive temperature measurement on pipes ranging from 13mm to 55mm diameter.
The type K thermocouple is housed in a stainless steel disc located within the stainless steel pipe clip; the sensitive grounded measuring junction ensures rapid response to any temperature changes.
Four alternative pipe clips cover the 13 to 55mm range of diameters and screw adjustment allows for precise fitting. All of the assemblies are supplied with 2m of silicone varnished, glassfibre insulated extension lead, 7/0.2mm conductors and stainless steel overbraid. The sensors are rated 350°C.

Adhesive Patch Thermocouple For Surface Temperature Sensing
The Labfacility patch thermocouples affix to a wide range of surface materials to provide reliable, high sensitivity temperature sensing.
The Type K thermoelement is housed in a moulded, silicone rubber patch 40mm x 13mm x 5mm. The self-adhesive, aluminium foil backed patch will adhere strongly and permanently to almost any surface and provide resistance to the effects of various oils and chemicals.
A 2m PFA insulated 1/0 2mm leadout is fitted, twin-twist construction with bare wire tails. The sensor is rated -50°C to 150°C.
A wide range of high quality heads from Labfacility provide IP67 and IP65 ratings in various configurations. Available in cast aluminium, stainless steel and polymer, the heads are available with optional terminal blocks in ceramic or glass filled thermoplastic.

Low Cost, Low Profile Temperature Transmitter
The Labfacility 300TXLP is a compact ,low-profile 4-20mA temperature transmitter with an overall height of only 23mm. It can be housed in low profile enclosures or in a DIN block terminal head. There is a choice of ranges for Pt100 and thermocouple types J,K,N,T,R & S.
A key feature of the transmitter is the minimal-interaction span and zero calibration potentiometer action which is time saving and convenient when scaling or offsetting; an exceptionally wide range of adjustment is provided by the potentiometers to allow for easy re-calibration of the 4-20mA temperature range. For example, a type K thermocouple which has a working temperature range of 0 to 1100°C can be easily calibrated to operate between 0 to 600°C, where 4mA and 20mA represent 0 and 600°C respectively.
The 4-20mA loop powered transmitter provides an accuracy of ±0.2% of span for thermocouples type J,K & N and ±0.1% for Pt100 sensors. The output is directly proportional to the mV input signal for thermocouples and to the temperature input for Pt100 sensors.
The key benefit of using a 4-20mA interface between the sensor and the host measuring instrument is that long cable runs will not reduce the measurement accuracy. Compared with using thermocouple extension cables instead, there are significant cable cost savings since the 4-20mA loop requires only low-cost copper cable.
For multi-sensor installations, especially those using different sensor types, 4-20mA loops allow the use of standardized process indicators which can be simply configured to the appropriate temperature ranges e.g. 4-20mA corresponds to 0 to 1100°C for a type K sensor.
